Popular action camera brand GoPro has launched a new waterproof camera in India. The rugged GoPro HERO sports action camera is waterproof up to 10 metres and comes with features like wide-view, voice control, and stabilisation, the company has claimed. It will go on sale in the country on April 2 exclusively via Flipkart. The e-commerce website has teased the upcoming device under its “No Kidding Days” sale which will run on April 1 and April 2. The GoPro HERO price in India has been set at Rs. 18,990.
There’s no 4K or similar high-end features (you’re limited to 1440p at 60 frames per second), but GoPro is betting you won’t mind. Instead, the focus is on ease of use: you get a 2-inch touchscreen with “streamlined” capture options, voice control and WiFi syncing with your phone. You can also expect virtually mandatory features like 30-foot water resistance, stabilization and support for GoPro’s usual mounting accessories. The new Hero is available worldwide as of today.
It’s not the first cheap GoPro, inexpensive Heroes have existed before, but it’s been more than two years since GoPro has offered a budget camera with an actual display.
The new Hero is not meant to replace the Hero 5 Session; GoPro will keep selling that small, cube-shaped camera for now. The company says it simply wanted to get a touchscreen into its entry-level model since it views that feature as essential when it comes to attracting new, more casual customers.
