Nokia has recently launched its wide product range at MWC 2018, It had several products showcased including Nokia 8 (Sirocco), Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 and Nokia’s portable banana phone as well. Looks like the company hadn’t finished yet, a new Nokia 9 image render showed up on the web. This seems to be the Nokia’s flagship model for this year.
According to Slashleaks, the specs sheet and the device itself have been revealed and the specs suggest some high-end specs that include triple cameras and Snapdragon’s latest chipset. The device boasts a 6.1-inch QHD AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio and claims to have more screen real estate within a 5.5-inch footprint. The build suggests a ceramic black with a gold finish similar to the phones released earlier.
First off, the list suggests that a ZEISS-branded, triple-lens camera setup may be in tow for the Nokia 9. This actually makes sense, seeing as how the triple-cam Huawei P20 Pro could very well be the result of a licensing deal between Nokia and Huawei. Furthermore, the specs sheet lists the three cameras on the Nokia 9 as main (wide), tele, and monochrome — with respective resolutions of 41MP, 20MP, and 9.7MP — which is suspiciously similar to what we saw in the Huawei P20 Pro. The main 41MP camera is also mentioned to have an f/1.5 – f/2.4 variable aperture, similar to the Galaxy S9+, with 1.4 um pixel size.
But even more interesting, perhaps, is the mention of a Xenon flash in the leaked specs sheet. That’s a feature that we haven’t seen in quite a while on a smartphone, and something that fans have been clamouring for for years. The sheet lists both Xenon and LED flash modules, which, if true, means that users will not only get all the benefits of a powerful camera flash, but also a flashlight. Since Xenon flashes operate in short, powerful bursts, they cannot be used as flashlights. Unfortunately, this doesn’t quite fit in with the suggested dimensions of 150.6 x 75.2 x 7.3 mm for the Nokia 9, as Xenon flash modules tend to be on the bigger side. At 7.3 mm, the Nokia 9 would be way too thin to fit in both a Xenon and an LED flash.
The smartphone’s spec sheet suggests a ceramic rear panel with an 18-karat gold finish, similar to the Nokia 8 Sirocco and the Nokia 7 Plus. The device could be backed by a 3900mAh battery, support Qi wireless charging and be IP68 certified water and dust resistant. One interesting reveal is the use of an in-display fingerprint scanner on the handset, which a previous report also tipped at.
The Nokia 9 will most likely run on Android 8.1.0 out-of-the-box and is speculated to be backed by a 3900mAh battery with support for Qi wireless charging. Connectivity options include USB type-C, Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and 3.5mm headphone jack. According to the specs sheet, the Nokia 9 comes with 5 mics which can record 24-bit audio and it is sporting the Android One branding on the rear as well.
